Governance Committee

The Governance Committee has various responsibilities, including regularly evaluating TRAF’s governance structure, including the relevant policies and procedures, and making recommendations for improvements to the Board. The Governance Committee also periodically arranges for TRAF’s governance practices to be benchmarked against industry standards. Additional details regarding the function of the Governance Committee are set out in its Terms of Reference.

The current members of the Governance Committee are set out below.

Nathan Martindale


Chair

Appointed to committee September 25, 2023

Nathan Martindale served as the President of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society from 2023 to 2025. Prior to his presidency, he served as Vice President for four years and spent two years as a member-at-large on the Provincial Executive. He represented 16,600 members across Manitoba as a member of the Provincial Bargaining Committee and Table Team during the first round of provincial bargaining. In addition, Nathan served the Winnipeg Teachers’ Association in a full-time capacity for six years, holding the offices of both Vice President and President.

Nathan received a Bachelor of Education degree and a post-baccalaureate diploma in Special Education from the University of Manitoba and began his teaching career in the Winnipeg School Division in 2006. He currently works at Ralph Brown School as a learning support teacher.

Brenda Tobac


Appointed to committee March 19, 2018

Brenda Tobac has over 20 years of business experience, mainly focused on risk management. Her current role is Manager, Consulting Services at MNP Inc.

Prior to joining MNP, Brenda was Director of Risk Management at Ironclad Developments Inc. where she managed all aspects of risk including the procurement of insurance, claims management and project security. Brenda also started a captive (self-insurance) program and oversaw fleet management. She has spent 10 years in mid-market commercial banking where she managed banking relationships, structured financing solutions and brought in appropriate banking partners for mid-market corporations. Brenda has also led surety bond practices at HUB International, and practiced cross-border taxation at Deloitte and Arthur Andersen. 

She has both a Bachelor of Accountancy and a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Dakota as well as a Certified Public Accountant designation. Brenda has also completed the Institute of Corporate Directors – Rotman Director Education Program. 

Brenda has participated on boards and chaired committees focused mainly on children, health and education.

Myrna Wiebe


Appointed to committee September 25, 2023

Myrna Wiebe has more than 30 years of experience in the credit union system. She has held several senior leadership positions that have shaped her collaborative and member-focused approach. As the Chief Executive Officer for Access Credit Union Limited, she is accountable to the Board of Directors and is responsible for driving the credit union’s long-term success, financial sustainability and commitment to serving its members.

Myrna has completed the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) – Rotman Director Education Program, IFIC Mutual Funds License, Canadian Securities Course and Certified Financial Planning designation. Her education also includes completing the Certificate in Management program at the University of Manitoba, and Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Management and a Master of Business Administration through Athabasca University.

Myrna actively participates in the credit union system and fosters strategic partnerships within the broader financial services community. She also contributes to the provincial and national credit union systems, serving on boards of both Credit Union Central of Manitoba and the Canadian Credit Union Association. Previously, Myrna served on the Host Committee for Curl Manitoba Scotties 2024, South Central Cancer Resource Board and Host Committee for Hockey Canada’s 2019 National Women’s Under 18 Championship event.
